the latest victim a man in his 30s. he was stabbed to death last night. san jose police were called just before 8:30 and they say that the victim was outside of an apartment complex in the kenwood neighborhood. that's off monterey highway. he was attacked by a group of men who stabbed him multiple times. the victim later died at the hospital. police at this point don't know a motive and are searching for four suspects who ran from the scene. >> it's very vague at this point. four males possibly white or hispanic 18 to 20 and dark clothing possibly in a gray van that was seen leaving the area. >> reporter: this was the second homicide in san jose this week. on wednesday, a woman was shot and killed inside of her condo near tully road. police officers say that they are struggling with being understaffed. in 2008, the city had 1,409 police officers.

today there are 1,061. that's 348 less. as of the beginning of january, fewer than 600 officers have been assigned to patrol about one million residents. that means that any given time there are only about 70 on the streets. latest victim's name hasn't been released. the woman killed on wednesday was 43 years old and leaves behind two children. police have made no arrests. live in san jose, elissa harrington, cbs 5. at least one person has been arrested in a home invasion robbery in san jose, as well. it's according to the "mercury news." officers say two or three men armed with knives tied up an older couple in their home near leeland high school on monday. the home was ransacked. two cars were stolen. both cars have been found. was was driven in a rest -- one was driven know a reservoir. people in antioch are on high alert after a man tried to lure a boy into his car after school yesterday near sutter elementary. a fifth grade boy says a stranger approached him claiming he was sent by a family member to pick him up. the student said, i don't know

you, and quickly walked away. the suspect description is vague but reportedly driving a light blue '70s era car. new details in a shooting near a bart station earlier this week. police say two albany high school students who were shot wednesday were asked about their shoes first. it happened on a walking past near the el cerrito bart station after school let out. police didn't elaborate on the shoes. the teens are expected to make a full recovery. and the two shotters are still on the loose -- shooters are still on the loose. don't let drinkers get too drunk on super bowl sunday, the message being delivered to san francisco bartenders. cate caugiran reports that officials want 49ers to keep it in line on super sunday. >> reporter: good morning. city leaders want to make sure that super bowl celebrations are fun but clean and they want fans to keep this in mind as the bay area tries to bring a super bowl here in 2016 and

to see any major delays overty bay bridge. only some slight ones so far in the outer cash lanes. fastrak users get by okay. it's moving okay up the incline as well so we'll let you know as soon as they turn the metering lights on. now let's go to our maps. there's an accident in this area that we're watching northbound 238. it's on that connector ramp to northbound 880. so it's in the center divide but you can see we're already seeing a little bit of slowing on our sensors in that area so you may find a backup even though it's not on the main lines. westbound 580 a little stop and go 205 in tracy towards the dublin interchange especially heavy traffic now speeds under 40 miles per hour as you make your way through livermore. elsewhere golden gate bridge headlights are moving southbound towards san francisco and doyle drive. they wrapped up overnight roadwork farther north through marin county between the waldo tunnel and sir francis drake. and quick update no chains required getting out of town for the weekend no chains required right now towards the

sierra on 80, 50 or highway 88. that's a check of traffic. for more on these wet road conditions, lawrence has the forecast. >> widely scattered showers in the bay area this morning. fog is more of a concern. visibility is dropping down to a quarter of a mile in concord into napa. so watch out for that. you will see some patchy, dense fog early on. our high-def doppler radar showing you a few of those scattered -- scattered light showers hit and miss. foggy conditions out the door, chance of light showers and sprinkles outside even this afternoon a chance of a few light showers. i think mainly over the mountaintops. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. low pressure areas to worry about, this one to the south pumping up the moisture back into the bay area. but it's this guy in the gulf of alaska that will be paying a visit to the bay area this weekend to really drop the temperatures, keeping things unsettled and occasionally we may see some showers over the weekend, as well. all right. let's see if we can time this out. clouds early on today and a few scattered showers toward the afternoon, maybe a few more pop- up showers especially over the

them never looked up. they were on their computers or they were e-mailing or they wer texting, paying no attention and only reacted when people around them did something. >> what goes through the guy's mind? it's all over the place sometimes. >> keep in mind that this was a speech that clearly jerry wrote. no one else could have figured it out including jerry. but it got him through longer than ever, longer than ever. he delivered the message about optimism. he delivered the message about jobs. he delivered the messessage about local control of schools. he really did one hell of a job and then left on high-speed rail. >> he got out of town. >> you have to tip the cap to the voters because my guess is this speech would have been entirely different if prop 30 didn't pass. that is his ticket to ride, right?

[ laughter ] >> can't stop that. >> you may want to clue in the governor, too. >> that's why we love willie brown. thanks, guys. well, it was a rare rotten day for apple as its stock dragged down the nasdaq. >> here to chat about that, kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. >> reporter: good morning. call it the curse of high expectations. even though apple turned in record numbers of iphones and ipads sold in the 4th quarter, its stock took a beating yesterday falling about 12% and losing $59 billion in market

value in the process. a lot of investors worried that its higher end products are not being received as well overseas and emerging markets like china and india where samsung has made inroads as well as many other android-based devices that are cheaper some wall street analysts out there saying this could compel apple to make a lower end iphone in order to increase those sales. so that could pinch margins elsewhere so that's not an easy task ahead. apple is rebounding this morning. its shares are up about 1%. speaking of samsung, its galaxy line-up led to a 76% increase in profit in the latest quarter up to $6.6 billion. and according to strategy analytics samsung was the smartphone winner for 2012. sold 213 million smartphones apple in second with 136 million, nokia with about 35 million in third place. stocks off to a positive start today thanks to some stronger earnings, some companies like

procter & gamble, kimberly- clark and halliburton. dow up 35, nasdaq up 16, s&p up 5 points back to 1500. touched that level yesterday and it's going to see if it can hold on for the first time since december of 2007. frank and anne, back to you. >> thank you, kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. well, a crackdown on consumer fraud cases involving healthcare for workers here in san francisco. a city law says restaurants are supposed to be setting aside a couple of dollars from each bill to help cover employee health expenses. city attorney says that's not always happening. today's crackdown announcement comes a week after a pizza company agreed to a $200,000 settlement for failing to do just that. bart trains are getting new security equipment that will also help riders stay connected. bart is buying communications devices that will send live video from the railcars to bart security and their control centers. those devices will also provide free wi-fi service now for the cars. that service is expected to be a lot more reliable than the

current wi-fi that's offered aboard the bart trains right now. 10 minutes before 7:00. and some sprinkles outside this morning. >> light showers out there this morning. but this weekend we have some big changes coming our way. some much colder air headed in our direction and maybe a few more showers. outside we go, our high-def doppler radar showing you some scattered showers around the bay area this morning. but i think throughout the day we are going to keep a chance at least a few more showers in the forecast and some fog out there. visibilities down to a quarter mile in napa and into concord this morning. so watch out for that, as well. this afternoon, we'll see a lot of clouds outside, maybe some more pop-up showers especially over the south bay mountains. temperatures will be in the 50s and also the 60s. i have a couple of lows to deal with one off the coast of southern california now. one in fact gulf of alaska. the one down in the south still spinning up moisture in our direction but the one to the north will likely bring very cold air and some unsettled weather to this bay area this weekend. here's the latest forecast model showing you some of those clouds outside and a few scattered light showers. we have a chance of that into the afternoon as well as we'll

see afternoon heating and pop- up showers and then the cold front dives into the bay area tomorrow morning maybe to bring a couple of more raindrops but more importantly a chance of a couple of scattered showers. traveling out of sfo today we have possible delays there around the country. we'll see some cold temperatures in the eastern half, 20s and 30s there. some 70s in houston. temperatures in the 50s and also the 60s. next couple of days we will keep things unsettled but the ma the. >> of those temperatures going to be very chilly only in the -- majority of those temperatures going to be very chilly only in the 50s. elizabeth? >> roads are slick. be careful. word of numerous smaller fender benders, a lot of them quickly cleared to the right-hand shoulder. but again, you may just want to give yourself some extra time. live towards the san mateo bridge, there is an accident reported on the flat section of the span just past the pay gates. now, our traffic cameras not picking up slowing yet but again westbound 92, heading out of hayward, drive time is still 15 minutes between hayward and

foster city. eastbound 92 looks grade towards the east bay. bay bridge this is how now it is a light traffic day. the metering lights have been on since shortly after 6:00. but there's really not much of a wait at all getting into san francisco. if you commute the bay bridge every morning you know this is unusual. just slight delays in the middle lanes. couple of different spinouts accidents one in san leandro that's now cleared another new one southbound 880 at davis street is now off to the right- hand shoulder. so no delay between san leandro and oakland. and this problem spot also out of lanes on the connector ramp from northbound 280 to southbound guadalupe parkway. that's traffic. back to you guys. >> thank you. so if you were the parents of jim and john harbaugh, who are you going to root for on super bowl sunday? >> tough spot. john from the ravens decided to play a little prank on his family. he pretends to be a reporter from baltimore. >> question from baltimore, is it true that both of you like jim better than john?
